How I Reduce My Carbon Footprint
by livegreen - May 10th, 2011I can’t afford to retrofit my apartment building with solar panels or buy a fancy new electric vehicle, but there are ways I stay green and help to contribute to making the world a “greener” place. Some of these might almost seem like common courtesy, but you would be surprised at how many people I see forgetting their waste makes a huge impact on the city’s environment.
1. Reusable Water Bottles
This is very simple. Plastic bottles tend to get left around and get blown away in the wind and turn into trash on the street.
2. Weekly Shopping Trip
I usually make one weekly shopping trip in my car but will often ride my bike if I don’t need a cart full of groceries.
3. Energy Saving Lightbulbs
Instead of retrofitting my apartment with solar panels, I’ve opted for this method to save energy.
4. Use A Bike Whenever Possbile
I try to use my bike to go on short trips around the corner. It’s also good for you!
5. Full Load In The Diswasher
I wait until I have a full load in the dishwasher to run a full cycle.. Conserve that water!
6. Turn Off The Lights!
This is an easy one and helps on the electric bill..
7. Buy Local Fruits and Veggies / Grow Your Own
It supports the local farmer. I also have a grow box on my window sil.
8. Reusing Envelopes / Paper / Other Office Stuff
I have a home office and some days work from home. If you can’t reuse, recycle!
I feel like I’ve listed a few items above to kind of get you started on being greener in your daily life.
