Thursday, March 27th, 2008

The clock is ticking to tax time, but don’t forget that there are some environmental credits available to you.

The Energy Policy Act of 2005 gives individuals an opportunity to earn tax credits for environmentally considered purchases of new vehicles, home improvement items, solar energy systems, or fuel cells. Check out this reference guide from EnergyStar or this one from the Department of Energy for a full description of what qualifies and what doesn’t.

It’s definitely worth the read. This tax tip from the Enquirer says that even an energy-efficient door purchase for your home can qualify for a credit.

Whether you’re finishing 2007 taxes in a hurry or early-planning for 2008, don’t forget that choices you make when buying a new car or improving your home can help you get credit from Uncle Sam.
