Northside HOME house project

Friday, March 14th, 2008

Building Cincinnati has posted photos of the insides of the Northside green HOME house project homes. Construction has been underway for a few months and the houses are largely completed.

For some background on the subject, the HOME house project was a design contest held to address the subject of greening affordable housing. The project was made into a book and traveling exhibition, which made it to the CAC last year. The Northside project is based on one of the HOME house designs which aesthetically fit into the neighborhood where the plots were purchased. It’s a huge step forward into bringing environmental considerations to a level that can be reapplied by anyone.

    Thanks for the link, Brianne.

I didn’t mention that they have bamboo floors throughout and IKEA cabinets. The HVAC system is top-notch. The size of 1,400 square feet isn’t overly large. They’re decent houses.

It’s pretty cool that these are the first HOME houses in the nation.
