Green Myth #2

Fact or fiction?
Ethanol is a bad thing.

This is false! Yes, corn based ethanol has gotten a bad rap lately in its connection to rising food prices. However, there are lots of other bio-based products that can be turned into ethanol which are both more efficient and disconnected from our food chain. Take for instance cellulosic based ethanol. This type of ethanol allows things like switchgrass and agricultural bi-products (the stems and stalks versus the food products themselves) to be converted into fuel. Using ethanol blended fuels does decrease the amount of fossil fuels needed. Of course it’s best to drive less, but if you have a car that can use ethanol you have a chance to save a bit of oil.
