Compare your pain at the pump, then ease it

Hopefully by now you’ve been willing to make some lifestyle changes to reduce your fuel usage like hypermiling, bicycling, taking the bus, carpooling, walking, or giving up your car altogether.

Gas prices have been significantly higher in Europe and other parts of the world for a long time, but if you’re wondering where Cincinnati fits in with the rest of the nation on average gas prices, check out this Gas Buddy pricing heat map.

The average cost to operate your car per mile is in the ballpark of 52 cents (this includes depreciation, repairs, and insurance). Here is a Cost of Driving Calculator that will help you get more specific. It’s not a local calculator, it’s out of St. Louis, which is actually in a lower cost of gas region (per the Gas Buddy heat map) than Cincinnati. Also, a round trip on the TANK or Metro starts at about $3, so our local transit may be slightly less expensive than the figures used in this calculator. So how much does it cost you to drive? When will it be financially preferable for you to switch to an alternative method of transportation?
